The 8,000-square-foot commercial space on the ground-floor of BKLYN GOLD, the luxury rental building located in Downtown Brooklyn, has finally found a tenant.

Changing Tomorrow Childcare is planning to open up a daycare center in the space that has sat vacant since the building’s launch in 2010. Tim Iafiasov and his father recently signed a 15 year lease for the space at 257 Gold Street. The pair have run a number of daycare centers in Queens and southern Brooklyn for the past three years and have decided to open one of their own.

“We’ve been looking in Downtown Brooklyn for a year-and-a-half,” Iafiasov told BKLYNER Monday afternoon. They chose the 257 Gold Street space because of its generous size and accessibility, “close to the Manhattan Bridge, trains, and buses,” he added.

The new center will be able to accommodate 196 children, from infants up to pre-schoolers, and will employ two educational directors, 35 teachers and teacher’s assistants, as well as a full-time nurse, he said.

The center will also feature high-tech amenities such as fingerprint accessibility and “log-in specific” live-streaming so parents can check in at any time of the day to see how their little ones are doing, Iafiasov explains.

Among the center’s offerings will be ballet classes, a chess club, and a class that teaches the young students manners, such as how to say “please” and “thank you,” as well as table manners, he adds. The center’s playroom will feature retractable glass doors that can be opened up on rainy days to enable the kids to enjoy fresh air.

Changing Tomorrow Childcare is slated to open January 2018 with early enrollment beginning in approximately three months. The center’s website is currently being finalized and should be up and running in a couple of weeks, Iafiasov said. Once up, parents can log onto changingtomorrowchildcare.com to learn more about the center, schedule meetings with the directors, and see 3D renderings of the facility.

“This is a thriving location in the heart of downtown Brooklyn, surrounded by new developments and luxury residential buildings,” said James Monteleone of All Points Real Estate who brokered the deal.

“It’s especially good for a daycare, especially with the playground across the street [at the corner of Gold and Concord Streets], combined with the limited amount of other commercial daycares in the area,” he adds.

The new daycare will be a welcome addition to the rapidly developing downtown neighborhood which is low on childcare facilities. An online search shows few centers in the downtown area near the Manhattan bridge, including a Bright Horizons at 345 Adams Street, Imagine Early Learning Centers at 85 Adams Street, and Daycare Shining Smiles located at 343 Gold Street.
