New Curb Cuts Coming Soon To Local Sidewalks
Good news for disabled neighbors and those pushing strollers and carts — several street corners in our area, particularly along 3rd Avenue, will be getting new curb cuts starting next year, according to Community Board 7.
Following a lawsuit filed in 2002 by the Eastern Paralyzed Veteran’s Association, the city was required to install concrete ramps at 158,000 across the five boroughs — a process that’s still underway. But, as was noted when another lawsuit was filed this summer, the settlement didn’t include maintenance, and advocates are pushing for better, safer, and more accessible streets for all.
As we wait on that, at least it’s good to know that some local streets will be getting some much-needed attention. See the full list of blocks below:
