New Bike Lanes Installed On 14th And 15th Streets

The new bike lanes on 14th and 15th Streets, proposed by the Department of Transportation last summer, popped up last week between 3rd and 8th Avenues.

Other parts of the safety improvements that are still on the way include:

• Painted sidewalk extensions at 4th Ave/15th St and 8th Ave/15th St.

• High-visibility crosswalks at 8th Ave/15th St.

• In-street bicycle parking, protective plastic planters, and benches on 15th St at the Armory entrance, maintained by the YMCA.

The new bike lanes connect with existing routes on Prospect Park West, 5th Avenue, and 3rd Avenue, and according to plans, future potential routes might include Prospect Park West south of Bartel-Pritchard Square, which would run down to and along Green-Wood Cemetery before linking up again with the 5th Ave route.

So with all these new bike routes, will you be out on two wheels more often to get around the neighborhood?
