Neighborhood Film Returns to NYC with Multiple Screenings
Ditmas Park certainly sees more than its fair share of high-profile movie and TV shoots. But rarely does the neighborhood feature as prominently as in Dan Sallit’s The Unspeakable Act, an independent filmed predominantly in and around an East 19th Street home. So far, though, the film has only had one local screening. If you missed it at BAMcinemaFest last June, though, you’ve got another shot. Three actually.
After gaining attention at festivals around the world — including the Sarasota, Rotterdam, Vienna, Edinburgh Film Festivals — the film is returning to New York for screenings at Lincoln Center, Anthology Film Archives, and Brooklyn Fire Proof in Bushwick. Here’s all the necessary info:
Anthology Film Archives
Friday, March 1 to Thursday, March 7
Every evening 7pm and 9:15pm
AFA is also screening some of Sallit’s previous work at various times between 2/28 and 3/8. (In an email, though, Sallit notes, “If you’ve never seen any of my films, please don’t start with POLLY PERVERSE STRIKES AGAIN! It’s included in this series for purposes of study only.” You’ve been warned.)
Film Society of Lincoln Center
Tuesday, March 12 at 8pm (the page currently says 7pm, but this is incorrect)
It’s possible that Christine Vachon will be introducing the film and doing a Q&A with Sallit and lead actress Tallie Medel, but this is unconfirmed.
Brooklyn Fire Proof
Sunday, April 7 at 7:30pm
Check out this interview we did with Sallit, visit the film’s Facebook page, then come out to support neighborhood cinema!
