Neighbor Charged With Shooting Man In The Head At 2149 Cortelyou Road

A 23-year-old man has been charged in the death of Ulysse Prinso, a 26-year-old who was shot in the head at 2149 Cortelyou Road on August 13, the NYPD said in an email to the media this morning.

Prinso was rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was kept on life support until late August, when he succumbed to his injuries, the New York Daily News reported.

The News also reported that Avon Simmons was arrested two days after the shooting but, because the victim died, his charges have been upgraded. According to the email from the police today, Simmons, who is from the neighborhood, has been charged with attempted murder, felony assault, criminal use of a firearm, and criminal possession of a firearm.

We’ve also reached out to the NYPD to confirm the name of the victim, as we found a facebook page that appears to be his, but his name is listed as Prinso Ulysse.

Our thoughts go out to the victim’s family.
