Nadler: Brighton, Ovington Post Offices Will Not Close
The following is a press release from the office of U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) announced that the Brighton Postal Station at 3157 Coney Island Avenue in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, and the Ovington Retail Station at 6803 4th Avenue in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn will remain open, after having appeared on a list of postal stations to be studied for closure last year. Nadler, who had officially urged the U.S. Postal Service to keep the stations open, praised the decision:
“I am extremely pleased that the local post offices in Brighton Beach and Bay Ridge will remain open after much uncertainty and speculation over the previous months,” said Nadler. “I commend the U.S Postal Service for recognizing the unique importance of these stations for these communities. Closures would have created major inconvenience for seniors, those with disabilities, and businesses that rely on local post offices and the services they provide. I will continue to work in the future to ensure that these stations remain open and accessible to my constituents in Brighton Beach and Bay Ridge.”
U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler represents New York’s 8th Congressional District, which includes Manhattan’s Upper West Side, Hell’s Kitchen, Chelsea, SoHo, Greenwich Village, TriBeCa, the Financial District and Battery Park City.
