Mural Unveiled At Maurice Sendak Community School
Kids at P.S. 118 The Maurice Sendak Community School on 8th Street and 4th Avenue unveiled a mural in the main hallway to celebrate what would have been Maurice Sendak’s 87th birthday on Wednesday.
The Brooklyn-born children’s author passed away in 2012, but his memory lives on in the halls of P.S. 118.
To celebrate the occasion Brian Selznick, author and illustrator of The Invention of Hugo Cabret, sat down with the P.S. 118 kindergarten class to read Sendak’s classic book, Where The Wild Things Are.
The mural was created by Michael Hagen, a longtime Sendak friend and collaborator, and based on Sendak’s Where The Wild Things Are. It was a gift of the Maurice Sendak Foundation, which helped to found the school two years ago.
