Mumford & Sons Release Video For ‘Ditmas,’ A Track Inspired By Our Neighborhood

Mumford & Sons, the Grammy Award-winning quartet from London, just released their video for “Ditmas,” and while the footage comes from Kiev, the song itself was, the band said, inspired by our neighborhood — the group wrote and recorded much of its third album, “Wilder Mind,” in a Ditmas Park studio owned by The National’s Aaron Dessner.

The song has landed love from many a critic, with, for example, the Washington Post calling “Ditmas” a “stunner, a meta-textual song … atypically unafraid to throw an elbow.”

Fans of The National, Mumford & Sons — who recently kicked off their summer tour in Coney Island — reportedly loved our neighborhood’s studio and “geeked out” when they recognized the piano that can be heard on some of their favorite National tunes in Aaron’s Ditmas Park space, the Village Voice reported.

“He’s a huge catalyst who really just understood the band,” Mumford & Son’s Ted Dwane said of Aaron, the Voice wrote. “He kind of knew what our intention was, which was to come and write as freely as possible….He had the right temperament to supply this atmosphere of creativity and enjoyment and trust in each other’s ideas. He supplied us with the most important bit: the foundation to get back together and start writing.”

What do you think — now that Ditmas Park is on Mumford & Sons’ radar, would you want them to do a surprise concert at, say, Sycamore, like The National did?
