On Thursday, September 17, the Community Board Meeting 6 Transportation Committee will hear from MTA officials about proposed improvements and upgrades to Park Slope’s 7th Avenue F/G subway station.

The proposal by Participatory Budgeting NYC (PBNYC) led by Council Member Brad Lander was submitted to the MTA and includes the following:

• Increasing the total number of turnstiles in the station.

• Replacing high entry-exit turnstiles with arrays of ‘high speed’ waist-high turnstiles at both the 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue ends.

• Moving the station agent booth from the middle of the station to the 7th Avenue end of the station, which the majority of the station’s ridership uses.

In a press release from Wednesday, September 16, Brad Lander writes, “Over the past 4 years, I’ve seen PBNYC lift up concerns of the community and bring attention to issues that weren’t getting the attention they needed. We saw it with increased attention and greater funding secured citywide for school bathroom repairs, and I’m glad we’re seeing it again right here at our 7th Ave station.”

Two PBNYC meetings are scheduled for the 2015-2016 Participatory Budgeting cycle. They will take place on Wednesday, September 30 and Tuesday, October 6.

Do you think the proposed changes will increase speed for straphanger entrances and exits at the 7th Avenue stop?
