Have A Movie-Worthy Home? Student Filmmaker Wants To Talk To You

A student filmmaker from SUNY Purchase let us know that she’s hoping to shoot her movie, To Sing Among The Branches, on December 29 through January 1 in our neighborhood – and she’d like to connect with neighbors who’d be interested in allowing the aspiring artist to film in their home.

Lisa Lakeman told us in an email that she is seeking  “a good-looking house that would suit a middle to upper class character family.”

Lisa said there will be about 8 to 10 people on the set and stressed that, “we are all trained to get everything done neat, quick and tidy so there are the least amount of complications.”

To Sing Among The Branches tells the story of a family struggling with the unexpected death of an eldest son. Following the tragedy, “the kinks and cracks of an affluent American family are suddenly revealed, forcing them to find love when there is grief,” Lisa writes on her fundraising page.

On the same fundraising page, the filmmaker explains why she wants to make this movie:

Grief and death are strongholds that surround us all the time where often people, including myself, turn to the wrong devices for comfort and push away the ones they love most. My name is Lisa Lakeman and I am a student filmmaker finishing my last year at SUNY Purchase for directing film. Since I could hold a camera, I have always been an activist filmmaker at heart, striving to make a difference and send a message to the world. Recently a good friend of mine passed away unexpectedly and it hit me hard.  I am making this film in order to send a message out of a life lesson I learned, to strengthen the importance of a family and dealing with grief in a more secure and less harmful way.  If together we could help at least one person get through their tough times, then it is worth it. Let’s make this the best it could be.
