Morning Mug: “The Job Of The Artist Is Always To Deepen The Mystery.” — Francis Bacon

A very interesting query posed by this morning’s featured photographer, who asks about the mural located inside the HSBC bank at 1702 Avenue U (corner of East 17th Street).

I used to always stare at it this painting as a kid, I’m lucky I was able to take this photo recently without any hassle from bank employees. What I still  need to do is see if there’s a plaque or sign naming the artist or the work. I was unsuccessful at a search…Would you be able to find out the history of the building?…was HSBC the only occupant? I can only find that it was built in 1950, and is now owned by HSBC. Note : this image is unretouched.

Anyone? I’d love to know myself. Thanks for the photo, Laine!
