Morning Mug: Sheepshead Bay, Let’s Clean Up Sheepshead Bay

I don’t live very far from this incredible view, courtesy of our Maestro of Dramatic Sunsets (although, in this case, I believe it is a sunrise). It’s maybe a seven- to 10-minute walk from my house to the movie theater, but whenever I go, I always make sure to walk on the side of the street that the Amity School is on, because while this photo is stunningly beautiful (not to mention, extremely well composed), looks can be very deceiving.

It is a rare day that I have walked along the water side of Knapp Street between Voorhies Avenue and Harkness Avenue and found it not heavily polluted with trash and overgrown weeds (and heaven only knows what lurks in those weeds), which is a sorrowful shame considering the lovely vista the area provides.

See for yourself.

It’s long been a fantasy of mine to round up half a dozen (or more) like-minded individuals, armed with rakes, hedge clippers and garbage bags, and clean the hell out of this neighborhood eyesore. Hey, if we do, maybe Sheepshead Bites will write a story about us!

I wonder if any of you under the age of 30 remember this old commercial, which inspired the title of the post.
