More Car Vandalism Reported Throughout The Neighborhood

After we posted about car windows being smashed on E. 18th Street, between Ditmas Avenue and Dorchester Road, yesterday, a number of people contacted us about their vehicles being vandalized in the area recently.

Neighbor Victoria, who sent us the above photo, told us that she discovered last night that her car window had been broken while the vehicle was parked on Dorchester and Marlborough Roads. Nothing was stolen from the car.

Neighbor Sean emailed us and said his car window was shattered about a month ago on E. 16th Street, between Dorchester and Ditmas. Again, nothing was stolen, and our neighbor said, “It seemed pretty clear that it was a case of vandalism and not attempted theft.”

When Sean reported the incident, which happened during the day, to the 70th Precinct, he was told they would step up undercover patrols in the area. Additionally, when Sean spoke to the police, he was told that while nothing may directly come of filing a report, it would help to “direct resources to the neighborhood in an effort to catch whoever’s doing this.”

Other neighbors reported incidents of car vandalism on:

  • Ditmas Avenue between E. 16th and E. 17th Streets
  • E. 16th Street between Ditmas and Newkirk Avenues (which we added to our post yesterday)
  • Rugby Road near Beverley Road
  • Beverley Road between E. 17th and E. 18th Streets

We’ve also reached out to the 70th Precinct to find out more about the crimes and will update this as soon as we find out more information.

What do you think can be done to best address the vandalism?
