More Bad Weather, More People Need Help: Volunteer and Donate Here

All you need to do is take a look outside and see the snow and wind of Athena at work to know that there are hurricane victims still in need. They’ve been evacuating low-lying areas all day. Here are two ways to donate or volunteer for good causes.

Flatbush Reformed Church has opened its kitchen facility to neighbors to prepare meals for ongoing storm relief efforts. Newly re-elected Assemblywoman Rhoda Jacobs sent word to the neighborhood that the church will be preparing meals for ongoing storm relief efforts. The church’s kitchen is large enough to prepare meals in large quantities, says Reverend Daniel Ramm, but volunteers should bring whatever food supplies they need.

The church is located at 890 Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn and is within walking distance of the Church Avenue stop on the Q/B trains, as well as the B41 bus. Call the church at 718-284-5140 for more details.

“I am truly humbled by the many members of my district who have devoted themselves to relief efforts in the aftermath of the storm,” said Assemblywoman Jacobs.

If you have goods to give, many Brooklyn Public Libraries are accepting donations to help with hurricane relief. You can find a list of participating libraries here along with a list of suggested items for donation. Local libraries such as Cortelyou Road and Midwood are not participating.
