MLK Day 5K Has 7th Avenue Finish Line

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day this Monday, January 20, you may see a lot of tired, but happy runners around 7th Avenue and Garfield Place, as Da Nonna Rosa (140 7th Ave) is the finish line of a 5k.

Organized by the Park Slope-based youth running club Run4Fun, the race is walk/run fundraiser for Seeds in the Middle, a non-profit that aims to help kids improve their health, improve their arts education, and green their environment. The family-friendly event kicks off at PS 221 in Crown Heights, where there will be a farmers market, a bone marrow registry drive, an MLK-inspired oratory contest, and fun, free events and activities for the whole family.

If you’re interested in registering for the 5k, it’s $20 in pledges to support healthy programs for kids and to open more farmers markets in the city. Students in public schools can get 20% back for their own school programs.

We’re looking into any possible street closures for the event, and will update as we learn more. UPDATE: No streets along the route will be closed.
