Cops have located a missing 79-year-old man with Alzheimer’s who disappeared last night from outside the Cherry Hill Gourmet Market on Emmons Avenue.

A woman claiming to be the man’s granddaughter posted a message to Facebook this morning thanking friends for their support and expressing relief that the harrowing night was over.

Dear Friends, thank you so much for sharing the news about my grandfather and for all the support that we recieved from you over the last night. The police found him this morning, and he is now with our family. He is OK.

On Tuesday evening, she had put out a frantic message on social media — shared by this site — asking residents to look for her grandfather, who had vanished from the market and could not be found. (The message has since been taken down.)

Police later issued a notice that the man, Sheepshead Bay resident Leonid Tsipenyuk, had gone missing around 5pm near Ocean Avenue and Emmons Avenue and authorities were asking for the public’s help locating him.

The Sheepshead Bay station house confirmed this afternoon that Tsipenyuk has been found. We’re happy to hear that he’s safe and has been reunited with his family.
