Midwood Flooded Over The Weekend

MIDWOOD/FLATBUSH/DITMAS PARK – After intense rain over Thanksgiving weekend, streets in parts of Brooklyn turned into rivers and lakes.
Assemblywoman Rodneyse Bichotte was caught in one yesterday, tweeting, “We are under water!”
She said she reached out to various City agencies including the Mayor’s office, the Department of Sanitation, and the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). A few hours later, she said the DEP and the Mayor’s office reached out and “had their workers clean out the catch basins at the intersections reported.”
On my way to church this morning and noticed major intersections in the district (South Midwood, Ditmas Park & Flatbush) with flooded roadways as a result of yesterday’s heavy rain @NYC_DOT @NYC311 @NYCSanitation @NYCWater pic.twitter.com/U56Hvxmanf

The culprit, DEP says, are “fallen leaves blocking catch basins at several intersections in those neighborhoods.”
“Once the leaves were moved from the catch basins – the stormwater drained into the sewer system. DSNY street sweepers were in the area today and property owners are asked to keep the basins nearest them free of debris, or to report blocked basins to 311.”
