Met On 7th Avenue To Close

The commercial real estate situation on 7th Avenue continues to grow more and more bleak, with additional vacancies and no signs of new businesses coming in to replace the old. This week: The owners of the Met at 185 7th Avenue, between 1st and 2nd Streets, have announced they will close the market in October.

Neighbor Robert wrote in to bemoan the dwindling state of shopping on 7th Avenue, noting that the Key Food at Carroll, which may be the best alternative for anyone who’s been relying on the Met, isn’t his top pick in the neighborhood.

“5th Ave rocks with awesome Associated and a great Key Food plus an amazing butcher at Sackett and 5th,” he says. “What up with 7th? We got nuthin.”

Here’s hoping this space, and the many others on the street, doesn’t stay empty too long.
