Memorial Day Schedules Around South Slope

If you’re hanging around the neighborhood this Memorial Day Weekend, we’ve put together a list of places in that will either be closed or operating under a limited schedule.

From NYC.gov:
Government offices and courts are closed Monday, May 27th for Memorial Day. There is no mail delivery.
All NYC public schools are closed, Monday, May 27th.
Alternate side parking is suspended. You do not have to pay the parking meter. No stopping, no standing and no parking regulations are suspended except where those regulations are in effect anytime or seven days a week.
There is no garbage or recycling pickup. If Monday is your garbage day, put out your garbage after 5:00 PM Monday evening.  If Monday is your recycling day, wait until next week to put out your recycling.
The Staten Island Ferry runs on a holiday schedule with service every 30 minutes from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM.
From the MTA:

No work is scheduled around our stations for the F, G or R this weekend (a refreshing change), and the MTA is adding extra trains today (Friday) to help those trying to get out of town for the holiday. Keep in mind, though, that the transit system will be running on a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day, so plan accordingly.

Libraries:

All branches of the Brooklyn Public Library will be closed Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27.

Banks:

Area banks will be closed, including Chase (444 5th Ave at 9th Street and 533 5th Ave at 14th Street), Bank of America (534 5th Avenue at 14th Street), Capital One (516 5th Avenue at 13th Street), and Astoria Federal Savings (459 5th Avenue at 10th Street).

YMCA:

Both the Prospect Park (357 9th Street, between 5th and 6th Ave) and Armory (361 15th Street, between 7th and 8th Ave) YMCA will be open on Memorial Day, but only from 7am to 8pm.
