Mayor de Blasio Presides Over A Latte Love

Macchiatos, the mayor, and a marriage! A sweet interaction over pastries between a barista at Colson Patisserie (374 9th Street) and our resident Mayor Bill de Blasio led to his honor officiating a wedding this past weekend.

The Post reports that the cafe’s Edouard Houilliez, who proposed to his girlfriend Emily Shevenock in January, popped an almost bigger question when he asked the Mayor, who regularly orders coffee and an oatmeal or chocolate-chip cookie in the morning, if he’d officiate the couple’s wedding.

The ceremony took place this past Sunday at City Hall, where de Blasio called the barista “a wonderful part of our neighborhood.”

Congratulations to Edouard and Emily, and be sure to wish him a lifetime of happiness the next time you stop into Colson!
