Man Struck by Vehicle and Killed Preparing for Film Production in Carroll Gardens
CARROLL GARDENS – A 63-year-old man was hit and killed by a driver in Carroll Gardens early this morning as he helped prepare for a film shoot, police confirmed.
The victim, Pedro Jiminez, was struck by a Ford Explorer outside 9 Douglass Street around 4:20 am on Monday, December 10, police said. Jiminez was setting up cones on the parking lane in preparation for an exterior shoot for the Starz program “Power,” which is set in New York.
A representative from the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment confirmed that exterior filming for the production has been canceled for the day.
Jiminez was aided by EMS and taken to Brooklyn Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, said police. The driver of the vehicle, a 64-year-old man, remained on the scene following the collision.
The NYPD Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the fatality, though no arrests have been made at this time.
According to the NYPD’s motor vehicle collision data, there have been 11 collisions at Douglass and Court Streets in the last five years. None of those, however, have resulted in injury or death prior to this morning.
