Man Steals More Than $13K From Brooklyn ATMs, Police Say
A man used a skimming device to steal people’s bank account information and withdrew more than $13,000 from several Brooklyn ATMs in Downtown Brooklyn, Fort Greene, and Bay Ridge, police said.
A surveillance photo showed the suspect in a Bank of America at 449 Myrtle Ave. at about 1:30 p.m. on July 14, where he withdrew cash by using skimming devices to retrieve personal information from his victims, according to police.
Cops said the suspect started making his ATM rounds on July 1 at 8 a.m. when he withdrew $1,386 from 45-year-old woman’s bank account.
On July 9, at 9 a.m., the suspect used a 54-year-old man’s debit card to take out $200 at 7212 Fifth Ave., and another $200 from an ATM at 7202 Fifth Ave. in Bay Ridge, police said.
The suspect made three more ATM stops between midnight and 1:30 p.m. on July 14 when he stole $506 from a 40-year-old man at a TD Bank in Brooklyn, $706 from a 27-year-old woman, and $1,232 from a 41-year-old woman, police sources said.
The next day, the suspect made several ATM transactions between midnight and 6:30 p.m. where he stole more than $8,000 from victims ranging between 21 and 57 years old, cops said.
Police said the crook made two more withdrawals on July 16 and 17, taking $909 from a 46-year-old woman and $503 from a 24-year-old man.
In total, the suspect took $13,674.67, officials said. The suspect was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black cap, and black sunglasses.
