A 46-year-old man was shot to death this weekend in Fort Greene, reportedly in the courtyard opposite 117 North Oxford Walk in the Walt Whitman Houses, said police, who declined to identify him pending family notification.

It was 2:19am on Sunday, August 2 when the 9-1-1 calls came in about a person shot. Upon arrival, officers observed [the man] with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, unconscious and unresponsive.”

He was rushed to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made as the investigation is ongoing.

This shooting was one of several over the weekend throughout the city that killed three and wounded 19 people — nine of whom from a single house party in East New York; one of the others killed was in Canarsie.

Brooklyn Borough President is holding an “open casket” vigil/protest this morning outside Brooklyn Borough Hall to launch “a weeklong gun violence awareness campaign” and a “Take Five to Stay Alive” plan of action for New Yorkers to help reduce the impact of gun violence in our communities.

Fort Greene and Clinton Hill have been no stranger to the uptick in gun violence this spring and summer, with shootings occurring monthly, if not more frequently, since May.
