‘Make Music’ With Bicycle Bells In Prospect Park This Sunday
The 2014 edition of Make Music Winter, a series of participatory (and free) musical celebrations on the longest day of the year, is coming up in our area this weekend with all the bells and whistles — well, just the bells, anyway.
On Sunday, December 21 at 4pm, neighbors are invited to gather at Grand Army Plaza for Wheels, a new piece created for bicycle bells by Paris-based composer Nissim Schaul.
Cyclists will travel in groups around most of the main loop of Prospect Park, following the score that will be transmitted from the lead bike, using a helmet that’s embedded with lights. Bikes will come together and flow apart, performing music that works in groups and alone. It should be pretty fun to hear, even if you’re not on a bike, so keep an eye out for them if you’re strolling through the park on Sunday.
Bicycle bells will be distributed to the first 50 riders at the beginning of the parade — bring a screwdriver to attach yours. Or you can buy a bell in advance — Schaul has a list of the ones he’ll be using — but there are also plans for those who don’t have a bell to make sure they’re able to participate, too.
If you’re less of a biker and more of a dancer, there’s also a Make Music Winter parade heading from the Central Library down Flatbush Avenue on Sunday!
