Make a Film Starring Your Block for a Fest This Fall

Here’s a cool idea for all you filmmakers (experienced or otherwise) out there. On My Block Films is inviting NYC residents to make a one- to five-minute short narrative or documentary film on their block using only residents of the block as cast and crew.

Starting today, all eligible films will be posted and screened online through November 1, where you can vote on a film by ‘liking’ it. The 30 films with the most Vimeo likes will move on to the Judging Panel the first week of November.

The top 15 films picked by the panel will then be screened at an outdoor festival on November 17, and awards will be presented to Best Narrative Film, Best Documentary Film, and Best In Show.

For additional information about the process, contact Mary Crosse at mary@onmyblockfilms.com or visit onmyblockfilms.com.

If you end up submitting a video, let us know so we can post it here, too, and so that neighbors can vote for it! And if you are looking for people to help you out on your block, feel free to reach out here in the comments.

Thanks to neighbor Franny for forwarding the info–and if you happen to live on Westminster between Newkirk and Ditmas and you end up making a video, she says might be available to help you on it!
