Loom On 7th Avenue To Close, But This One’s Not Your Typical Business Closing Story
Rarely is there good news about a closing. And although we’ll be sad to see Loom (115 7th Avenue between President and Carroll Streets) close its doors, it’s a bit more of an uplifting story than usual.
Loom has been a “go-to” gift shop for many in the neighborhood. Candles, lotions, and other curios made it a perfect stop for a last minute gift. One reviewer on Yelp commented that, “walking in this store is like that patch of sun that comes onto you during a partly cloudy day and brightens everything around you.” (Admittedly, that patch of sun could be pretty pricey.)
According to Mara, a store manager, owner Susan Choi is choosing to retire. “She even bought a camper to travel. She’s just ready to do other things,” said Mara.
Fortunately, this is not a situation where a business was forced to close due to a huge rent hike or a difficult landlord.
Loom will be closing its doors at some point during Labor Day weekend. Until then, the store is offering many discounted items. You may want to stop by one more time — you never know when that last minute gift is going to come in handy.
We wish owner Susan Choi all the best on her journey.
