Local Volunteering Opportunities

Looking for a way to give back to your community? Here are some great volunteering opportunities right in the neighborhood:

Friends of Greenwood Playground could use volunteers for the upcoming Green-woodstock this Sunday, May 5 at the playground on the corner of Ft Hamilton and East 5th. Teenagers and adults who can spare even as little as 1-2 hours are needed at the event that features a full day of live music, entertainment, food, and shopping.
Contact greenwoodplayground@gmail.com for more info.

Kensington Stables (51 Caton Pl) is about to begin training new volunteers. Love of horses is a must, but age requirement depends on experience — without any horse experience, ages 14 and up are preferred.
Contact BHorsetamer@aol.com with your equine experience and availability.

• The Kensington Plaza Stewards/Trash Mob are looking for people to join them in helping make the neighborhood a beautiful place to live by cleaning up trash, planting flowers in tree pits, and more.
More info here.

Heights and Hills is looking for volunteers to shop for and deliver groceries to elderly neighbors, particularly in the Windsor Terrace area as we await the new Key Food.
Contact volunteer@heightsandhills.org or 718-596-8789 for more info.

Sean Casey Animal Rescue (153 E 3rd) is always in need of volunteers to walk dogs or help in other ways at the shelter. (You can also make a donation online, drop off certain items that they always need like newspapers, cleaning supplies, and plastic bags, or adopt a new friend.)
Stop by the shelter or call 718-436-5163 for more info.
