Local Support for the PS 139 Chess Ninjas

The PS 139 Chess Ninjas’ first tournament at the school this past Saturday was a big success, with more than 230 kids from all over the city competing. Additionally, the team got some great support from two local businesses, as neighbor Ellen notes:

We just learned that Brooklyn Hearth has been inspired to become a booster of our Chess Ninjas and is giving $2,000 to the club! This is going to help us so much as we plan for nationals. [Above] is a great picture taken at Saturday’s inaugural chess tournament at PS 139 of Jan Rosenberg giving us “the big check.” It was a great way to celebrate Ian’s 10 year anniversary. We also received donations of pizzas from San Remo for our concession stand — which yielded over $1,000.

Lots of luck to the team as they gear up for nationals in Nashville next month!
