Live At The North End Of The Area? Help The Family Who’s Organizing A Farmers Market Near You

Many Ditmas Parkers are lucky to shop at and enjoy the fabulous Cortelyou Greenmarket every Sunday between Argyle and Rugby Roads. Some neighbors are closer to the Flatbush-Nostrand Junction market, which District 45 Councilmember Jumaane Williams is hoping to turn into a regular occurrence this summer.

But up at the bottom of the Prospect Park, or even for folks who might live just north of our general coverage area, neither of those options for wholesome food are always convenient or accessible.

Readers of The Q at Parkside may know there’s been a recent push for a similar market at Parkside Plaza (just outside the subway station)–which is great news for our Ditmas Park-PLG border neighbors!–but family-run RH Farms, who currently offer fresh produce at two markets in Crown Heights, have hit a financial wall since the death of husband and father Roy Hildebrant in 2012.

They’re asking neighbors to help them recoup expenses from Roy’s medical bills so that they may continue to plant, harvest, and bring healthy food to underserved communities–including one that might be just down the block from you.
