If you weren’t able to attend last week’s meeting about the major safety upgrades planned for Kensington and Windsor Terrace streets, you can still give your input on the plan by submitting them to Councilman Brad Lander’s office via this form or by contacting the Department of Transportation directly.
At the meeting, which was organized by Lander, DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg and other city officials spelled out a number of ways they plan to address a slew of unsafe conditions on area streets, including short crossing times and speeding cars. You can see our report of the meeting here, as well as the DOT’s full proposal here.
Additionally, if you’d like to get more involved with working to better street safety conditions in our community, Lander said to let his office know and they can connect you with other neighbors (like the KWT Safe Streets group). You can reach Lander’s office by calling 718-499-1090
In an email to the community, Lander said:
And please let us know also of any young people who would like to get involved in mobilizing for safer streets. They can join the new Vision Zero Youth Council, founded by a classmate of Naiem, Sammy Cohen-Eckstein, and Joie Sellers at MS 51. Together, students from elementary, middle, and high-schools are working to make sure they don’t lose any more classmates.
Have you seen the DOT’s proposal? What do you think of it? Is there anything you’d like to add – or eliminate? Let us know! You can comment below or email us at editor@kensingtonbk.com.
