Tired of chasing rats out of your yard and garbage cans, or seeing them running by when you exit the subway station? Then sign up for what the city Health Department and Brooklyn Community Board 2 (CB2) call “Rat Academy.”

The fun-sounding workshop will be all about the not-at-all-fun problem of rat proliferation in urban areas, including around Fulton and Atlantic between St. Felix Street and Carlton Avenue.

Scheduled for next Thursday, January 14, at 6:30pm at ART NY (138 South Oxford Street) Rat Academy is a free workshop for residents, businesses, and any organizations that want to learn tips about “how to combat rodent infestation.” According to CB2’s Carol-Ann Church, the community board decided to sign on to the program after receiving numerous calls from frustrated residents over several months.

As a bonus for participating, all participants who RSVP by 12 Noon next Monday, January 12 will get a free rodent-resistant garbage can per household!

Rodent-resistant trash cans that also look aesthetically pleasing are gaining traction around the city, according to The New York Times, at apartment buildings and co-ops that have found the investment worth it.
