Kids Going Stir Crazy? 5 Brooklyn Play Spots To Burn Off Energy
It took its sweet time in getting here, but winter appears to have settled in around the five boroughs. Whether you’re a fan of the cold temperatures or not, this weather tends to send stir-crazy families on a desperate quest for Brooklyn play spots. Not just any play spot, though. We’re talking play spots with plenty of room for kids to run, jump, spin, and burn off all of their pent up energy.
Where does one find such a magical place in Brooklyn? Check out these five indoor play spaces:
Aviator Sports and Events Center
3159 Flatbush Avenue, 718-758-7500
Aviator is a bit of a trek without a car, but if you have transport, live nearby, or don’t mind spending some quality time with the MTA, kids can get active and have fun with open skate, basketball, bungie trampolines, and more. For a full schedule and pricing information, visit the Aviator website.
Bounce U
6722 Fort Hamilton Parkway, 2nd Floor, 347-450-5867
If your little one is a mover and a shaker, Bounce U’s open bounce sessions can’t be beat. Weekends can definitely get crazy, but if you’re looking for a spot where kids can bounce till the cows come home, this is the place to be.
Klub4Kids
159 North 4th Street, 718-599-5900
What do you get when you combine a four level playground with a giant rock climbing wall? Very happy children. Klub4Kids, located in Williamsburg, is one of those fantastic Brooklyn play spots that works for kids of all ages. In addition to the giant playground, the space includes a toddler area, room to dance, color, play games, and more. Klub4Kids is open Monday through Friday, 10am-6pm, and weekends from 9am-12pm. Admission is $20 per kid (annual and monthly memberships are also available).
Recess
81 Washington Street, 347-987-3509
Looking for a great 6 and under playground? Get thee to Recess, which introduced their custom indoor playground to Dumbo in 2015. Open play (Monday through Thursday, 9am-6pm; Friday, 9am-5pm; Saturday & Sunday, 9-11:30am) is $30 per child ($20 for each additional child), but that grants you access throughout the day. You can even leave and come back after nap time – not too shabby.
YMCA
8 locations around Brooklyn
Who doesn’t love the Y – especially when you can sign up without the joiners fee (through February 13). We’re big fans of the Armory YMCA (located on 15th Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues in South Slope), but with seven other locations around Brooklyn, you’re bound to find open play times, inexpensive (or free) classes, and other ways to keep your entire crew busy (and fit) this winter.
