Kick Off Summer Reading At The Brooklyn Public Library

Summer Reading Kickoff at the Brooklyn Public Library

Calling all reading superheroes! Start the summer off with a good book and celebrate summer reading at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central branch this Thursday, June 4 from 10am-3:30pm, complete with live music and games for the whole family.

The official kickoff is at 12:30pm, featuring a read aloud with this year’s official summer reading spokespersons, our resident 9th Grade metal band Unlocking The Truth.

Other kickoff activities include a music performance by Shine and the Moonbeams, magic, juggling, and comedy by Parallel Exit, a Zumbatomic dance and fitness workshop with Bubbles the Clown, and more. There will also be plenty of giveaways. And if you send in a review of a baseball book, you could win tickets to the Yankees game on August 26.

In addition to the big summer reading kickoff in Grand Army Plaza, each neighborhood library branch is hosting mini-kickoffs on Thursday as well. The kickoff at the Sheepshead Bay branch on East 14th Street near Sheepshead Bay Road, from 3-4pm, includes an all-age celebration with music, prizes and more.
