Resident Safe & Building Structurally Sound After Today’s Kermit Place Fire
No residents were injured, and a single-family home remains structurally sound, after a two-alarm fire in Kensington this morning.
Isabel Lam fled to safety as an early morning fire today destroyed much of the interior of her home at 45 Kermit Place — but caused no structural damage — according to the FDNY and a contractor at the scene.
A two-alarm fire was called in for 45 Kermit Place at 7:04am, an FDNY spokesman said. Twenty-five vehicles and 106 firefighters responded to the blaze, which was contained in 32 minutes.
Three firefighters suffered minor injuries and were treated at Maimonides Hospital, the FDNY said.
Lam has lived at 45 Kermit Place for 40 years, the Brooklyn Paper reported. Her elderly cat had to be rescued from the blaze by firefighters.
Today’s fire spread to both floors of the 1910 house, and while the damage to Lam’s home was not structural, the house is currently uninhabitable, the contractor told us.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
