Kensington Woman Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In Morningside Heights

We have some very sad news: a 44-year-old photographer from Kensington, Guler Ugur-Yaacobi, was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Morningside Heights around 6:10pm on New Year’s Eve, according to the NYPD.

Ugur-Yaacobi, who lived on E. 7th Street, near Cortelyou Road, was crossing eastbound on West 113th Street, near Amsterdam Avenue, when she was struck by an SUV traveling northbound on Amsterdam, the NYPD said. EMS responded, and she was rushed to Saint Luke’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing, police said.

Ugur-Yaacobi, a professional photographer with a business at 60 Madison Avenue in Manhattan, was remembered by friends as an incredibly talented artist who never took a moment for granted.

On her photography business’ Facebook page, one friend wrote that,”Guler lived life everyday to the fullest with energy and happiness. We will miss her greatly!”

Another woman said she will “always treasure all the beautiful pictures she took of my family.”

We send our condolences and thoughts to Ugur-Yaacobi’s family and friends.
