Kensington Is Not All That Toxic, Comparatively
Does it feel like the pigeons around your building keep getting bigger, or the raccoons keep growing more legs? If so, it may have something to do with this new map from Property Shark, which plots all the terrible, toxic occurrences on record across New York City.
Our area, thankfully, isn’t as saturated with very polluted sites as many surrounding neighborhoods, but we do have a mix of Superfund sites, tank test failures, spills over 25 gallons, tank failures, and hazardous waste violations.
Avenue C to Ditmas Avenue between Coney Island Avenue and Ocean Parkway gets the brunt of our area’s toxicity, as does, it seems, Beverley Road.
Explore the map to see how your block fares, and whether you need to go all Erin Brockovich.
