Kensington Felonies: Coming Home Very Late Can Cost You! Cars Missing; Bank Account Info Swiped; Green Dot Scam Returns

There was no summer break for the Kensington cops.  According to the felony reported prepared by the 66th Precinct, crimes committed between August 1 and September 17 kept cops scrambling from one event to another. But cops scored too, capturing some crooks. Overall felony crime in the 66th Precinct continued to drop in the past 28 days, down 4.71 percent as of the most recent CompStat report.

The information below only covers felony crimes that occurred in Kensington’s two police sectors, G and K. Sector G includes Beverley Road to Avenue F, and 37th Street to Coney Island Avenue; Sector K covers Caton Avenue to Beverley Road and 37th Street to Coney Island Avenue. The entire 66th Precinct is parceled into 13 sectors, lettered A-J.

ROBBERY

Sunday, August 9 from 4:50–­5am. Reported 40 minutes later.
E. 2 Street between Cortelyou Road & Ditmas Avenue
A man, 45, told police someone grabbed him from behind, put him in a chokehold, and threatened to cut his throat if he didn’t hand over his money. The male perp then pushed the man to the ground and took $200 from his front right pocket, police said.

Dahill Road between Albemarle Road & Church Avenue
Two men robbed a man, 54, on his walk home, police say. One perp caught the man from behind in a chokehold, while the other went through his right pocket, taking $450, a Samsung cellphone and miscellaneous papers, according to the NYPD.

Church Avenue between E. 3 & E. 4 streets
A man, 42, told police he was sitting in his parked car with the windows down, when two men came up and punched him in the head several times with their  fists closed, leaving a gash on his chin. According to the man, the perps demanded his money, but then fled on foot without taking anything, police said.

Avenue F between McDonald Ave & E. 2 Street
A man, 41, told police he was walking home when two unknown men approached him. The first perp punched him in the face with a closed fist, while the other slashed his left thigh and took his cellphone from his pocket, police said.

FELONY ASSAULT

Monday, August 4 between 8–8:30am. Reported Sunday, August 10 at 3pm.
Chester Avenue between Fort Hamilton Parkway & Minna Street
A woman, 36, complained to police that her landlord threw a bicycle at her. It struck her back, hurting her, police said. A 66th Precinct Detective Squad arrested the landlord Sunday, August 17.

Sat August 23 bet 2:45–2:50am. Reported 55 minutes later.
36 Street bet Tahama & Clara streets
A perp swung a knife at a man, 32, when the man confronted him about his smoking marijuana in the building’s hallway. The man’s left index finger was injured, police said. Patrol officers arrested the perp that day.

BURGLARY

Sometime between Monday, July 14–Monday, August 25. Reported August 25 at 2:45pm.
E. 9 Street between Avenue C & Cortelyou Road
Returning from her vacation, a woman, 37, discovered thieves had burgled her home, taking jewelry, a PlayStation, a TV, and some clothing, which she valued at $8,000, police said.

Thirteenth Avenue between 36 & 37 streets
A thief broke into a man’s truck, which he used for business. The man told police the thief took a printer, an Apple iPod, and $20 cash, valued at $800, police said.

Caton Avenue between E. 8 St & Coney Island Avenue
A man, 36, reported to police that the tools he used for his business, valued at $3,195 and stored in his truck, were stolen, police said.

Ocean Parkway between Avenue C & Cortelyou Road
Another man, 58, reported to police the theft of his tools, worth $2,600. This time the perp entered through a basement window, police said. The 66th Precinct Detective Squad arrested the perp Friday, September 5.

Saturday, September 6 between 11:10–11:35pm. Reported 75 minutes later.
Laundromat on E. 7 Street between Avenue C & Cortelyou Road
A man told police he saw two men carry a black bag out of the laundry room; he said he then saw them fleeing out the building’s back door. Police said another witness noticed the coin machine had been broken into and the money was gone when she came to pick up her laundry. Police do not know how much money was taken.

GRAND LARCENY AUTO

Sometime between Friday, August 22–Saturday, August 23, 3:30pm. Reported Sunday, August 24, 9:40pm.
E. 9 Street between Beverley Road & Avenue C
A man, 22, returned to where he’d parked his 1999 Ford Ecoline and discovered it was gone, police said.

Thirteenth Avenue between 36 & 37 streets
A man from Citiwide Auto Leasing Inc. reported his 2011 Ford Super Duty Van was missing from the spot where he’d parked it, police said.

Another man, 23, told police his 2008 Suki had vanished from the spot where he’d parked it, police said.

Two tires, valued at $1,200, were taken from a 25-year-old man’s parked 2014 Honda, police said.

Tuesday, July 29, 2:30pm–3pm
Ocean Parkway between Church Avenue & Beverley Road
Someone took $443 from a 33-year-old woman’s bank account, police said.

Avenue C between McDonald Avenue & E. 2 Street
A businessman told police that someone broke into his parked car through the front passenger window and took his Citibank debit card, his driver’s license, and a GPS, worth $330, police said.

E. 9 Street between Beverley Rd & Avenue C
A man, 31, reported thieves shattered his car’s front driver’s side window and stole his factory radio, navigation, car molding, gear shift, TV, window panels, air bags, speakers and amplifiers worth $7,300, police said.

Minna Street between Chester Avenue & 36 Street
Late Saturday afternoon a stranger phoned a man, 24, telling him he’d been awarded a grant. The stranger then encouraged the man to pay for it by putting money on four different “Green Dot Money Cards.” The man then put $1,000 total on four separate cards: $200 each on two cards, and $300 each on another two cards. Newgent Mgt LLC, 739 Church Avenue between E. 7 & E. 8 streets
A manager reported to police that nine blank checks were taken, two of which were cashed at Brooklyn College for $1,600 each, police said. The 66th Precinct Detective Squad arrested a perp one week later, on Thursday, August 26.

Ditmas Avenue between E. 8 & E. 9 streets
Police said, a man, 30, locked up his foldable aluminum bike with battery, worth $1,200, to a pole in front of his building, then went upstairs to visit with friends. Surprise, the bike was gone when he returned.

Someone withdrew $503 from a 66-year-old woman’s bank account using the ATM, although the woman had it in her possession, police said.

E. 7 Street between Friel Place & Church Avenue
Police said, in reviewing his on-line checking account, a man, 66, discovered someone had withdrawn $203 from it at an ATM, although he had the ATM card in his possession.

While a man, 71, was on vacation, someone made $18,984 in charges to his credit card, police said.

Police said another man, 61, reported that someone took $6,500 from his bank account.

Church Avenue between Chester Avenue & Story Street
While shopping in a local store, a woman left her purse in the stroller for convenience. Someone took it. It  held her cellphone, $540 cash, and a Guess wallet, police said.

As a woman, 38, was walking back to work, a man on a bicycle stole her iPhone from out her hand.

A man, 46, who kept his wallet in the glove compartment of his car with all his credit cards and driver’s license in it, was surprised to find it missing when he returned to his car, police said.
