Join A Winter Fiction Writing Workshop With Local Author Rachel Sherman

Local author Rachel Sherman will be leading her winter fiction writing workshop at Lark Café (1007 Church Avenue) beginning Tuesday, January 13. Rachel says:

Structured around in-class discussions of your work, we will focus on outline, structure, plot, narrative, dialogue and pacing, and content. You will receive written critiques and edits from me as well as your peers. This is an open class for both beginning writers as well as writers who currently have a novel or short story in progress. The class will culminate with an (optional) reading at Lark Cafe.

Rachel holds an MFA in fiction from Columbia University. Her short stories have appeared in McSweeney’s, Fence, Open City, Conjunctions, and n+1, among other publications. Her first book, The First Hurt, was short-listed for the Story Prize and the Frank O’Connor International
Short Story Award, and was named one of the 25 Books to Remember in 2006 by the New York Public Library.  Her first novel, Living Room, was released in 2009, also to broad critical acclaim. She teaches writing at Rutgers and Columbia Universities, and leads the Ditmas Writing Workshops. She blogs for the Parenting Section of The Huffington Post and is the “Fiction Expert” for About.com. Rachel is a member of the New York Writers Workshop.

The Tuesday night classes will run for a 10-week period from 7:30-9:30pm, and cost $450 (or $425 for returning students). Limited spaces are available, so contact rachel@rachelsherman.net to reserve a spot.

The above is a paid announcement from Rachel Sherman, who’s been teaching writing workshops in our neighborhood and beyond for several years.
