Join Neighbors To Remember Dottie The Dog In Prospect Park This Sunday

The story of Dottie the dog is a sad one, but if there’s one good thing that’s come out of it, it’s all the people who have come together because of her, which is certainly something to celebrate.

Dottie was found abandoned, looking emaciated and neglected, near 17th Street and 7th Avenue back in February by neighbors Brett and Ashley Affrunti, who, after discovering that all of the area shelters were full, took her in and nursed her back to health. More generous neighbors stepped up to help them with Dottie’s medical bills, and finally, last week, a family adopted the mended, healthy pup.

Sadly, on the night Dottie was dropped off at her forever home, she jumped the gate and was hit and killed by a car, leaving Ashley, Brett, her adoptive family, and all those whose lives she’s touched heartbroken.

Now, what had been planned as a party to thank everyone who donated to Dottie’s Go Fund Me page or offered their support in other ways has turned into a more somber remembrance. Ashley and Brett are still inviting people to join them to celebrate Dottie’s life, and all those who have come together to help in some way.

“You helped fight for her, you rallied for her, you celebrated for her, and now you grieve for her,” they wrote on their Facebook page, “so it is only fitting that we join together in memory of such a special soul.”

Join them this Sunday, April 27 at 1pm at the 15th Street entrance to Prospect Park for a remembrance of Dottie, followed by drinks at Greenwood Park — RSVP on the event page.
