Join A Volunteer Group Dog Walk This Saturday

Interested in a volunteering opportunity that gives back in sloppy wet kisses? Then you should be walking dogs for Sean Casey Animal Rescue — and if you’ve never done it before, you should consider diving in during a meet-up this weekend.

The shelter, which has locations in Kensington and Sunset Park, can always use volunteers for a number of tasks, including taking one of their adoptable pups out for a walk. Volunteer dog walkers must be 18 years or older, and must have a parent’s permission if under 21. Here’s everything you need to know (including a form to sign) before heading out.

If you want to start off with some company, this Saturday, March 28 from 12-2pm, our friends at Park Slope for Pets have organized a group walk, where they’ll meet up at the Sunset Park shelter, located at 551 39th Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues (a quick trip on the subway to 36th St). They write:

Each walk is about 20 minutes, depending on whether or not you want to keep the dog out longer. You can walk as many dogs as you like and the more of us there are, the more dog walks we can do.

They ask that you don’t bring your own dog, and that you RSVP so that they know how many people to expect.

Then get ready to meet some great dogs, like Jesse, the young Shepherd mix pictured above who’s been waiting at the shelter for a forever home since June of last year! Whether you fall in love with one that you’re ready to welcome into your own family, or you just help a dog get out of the shelter to enjoy a little sunshine, it should be a great way to spend an afternoon. And hey, maybe you’ll get hooked, and turn it into a regular weekend volunteering routine.
