Jo Anne Simon Wins Primary Bid For 52nd Assembly Seat
Jo Anne Simon has won the Democratic primary for the State Assembly District 52, defeating Pete Sikora, who came in second, and Doug Biviano, who came in third. The full results:
- Jo Anne Simon: 5,482 votes, 52.9%
- Pete Sikora: 4,137 votes, 39.9%
- Doug Biviano: 752 votes, 7.3%
Simon is a lawyer who maintains a specialized disability civil rights firm, is an adjunct Assistant Professor of Law at Fordham, and has served as Democratic District Leader and State Committeewoman for the 52nd Assembly District since 2004. She’s a co-founder and Secretary of the New York State Democratic Committee’s Progressive Caucus, and has worked with various civic organizations.
She goes up against Republican challenger John Jasilli (who apparently plays a mean guitar) in the general election on November 4.
Other wins in the state last night include Governor Andrew Cuomo holding on despite Zephyr Teachout’s efforts to take his nomination, while Kathy Hochul topped Timothy Wu in the race for the Democratic bid for Lieutenant Governor.
