More joy for caffeine connoisseurs across our neighborhood!

Jahbrew Jamaican Coffee and Tea will be opening at 1491 Flatbush Avenue (and Glenwood Road) this Saturday.

The new cafe will be having a ribbon cutting ceremony this Saturday at noon, with special guest, City Councilman Jumaane Williams.

Jahbrew’s owner, Kevin Guscott, comes from a family with a long tradition of growing coffee in Manchester, Jamaica.

Guscott told us that he hatched the plan of opening a cafe featuring Jamaican coffee when he was a student at Brooklyn College years ago. This is his first coffee shop in Brooklyn.

Guscott said he is especially excited to serve Iriemocha, which is made by mixing coffee and “naturally grown cocoa from Jamaica,” adding milk, and then garnishing with spices from Grenada.

It’s a “nice drink,” Guscott said. The cafe will be offering “healthy fun and a good vibe,” he added.

Jahbrew intends to have a strong community focus, Guscott said. The business plans to start a foundation to assist the families of coffee growers in Jamaica — the goal is to help keep the coffee farming life sustainable. Jahbrew also hopes to sponsor youth development in our area, Guscott said.

We are excited to check you out, Jahbrew!
