Initial Drilling At Putnam Triangle Commences This Week
As mentioned last month, initial construction/surveying at Putnam Triangle Plaza will take place soon. Now we have the dates: today, October 12 through Thursday, October 15.
Acording to the city’s Department of Design and Construction (DDC), the “Subsurface Geo Technical Field Work” will consist of drilling in two locations on the plaza to collect “boring samples” and the digging of two “test pits.”
The Fulton Area Business (FAB) Alliance sent DDC several questions about what neighbors can expect; here are their answers:
What are the work hours?
DDC: Proposed Start time of 8:00 A.M. and the finish time of 4:00 P.M. (Start and Finish time will be based on the allowable hours from the NYCDOT OCMC permit stipulation).
Will they be drilling in multiple locations within the plaza?
DDC: Allied (the drilling contractor) will be drilling in one location at a time within the plaza.
Will drilling be on the sidewalk or in the former ‘road bed’
DDC: In the former road bed. Access to businesses will be available at all times.
Will the plaza be closed off?
DDC: Part of the plaza will be required to be closed, Allied will provide signage and proper protection for the safety of the people.
Will people still be able to use parts of the plaza?
DDC: Pedestrians will still be able to use part of the plaza that is not closed.
How much noise can be anticipated?
DDC: Noise of the drill rig running can be expected which is normal from any drilling operation.
Will any utilities be affected (water or power shut off to the businesses or residents?)
DDC: None of the utilities will be affected (water and power will not be shut off to the businesses or residents during the operation).
Will the work continue rain or shine? Or, be rescheduled?
DDC: Work will continue rain or shine, with the one exception being a torrential downpour, in which case the work will be rescheduled or stopped until the next day.
Will there be any work in the coming weeks, or just this exploratory drilling for now?
DDC: All exploratory work will be done during these 4 days.
