Infant Girl Injured In Bath Beach Fire
A baby girl was rushed to the hospital after being carried out of a burning Bath Beach home by her barefoot father last night.
The blaze, which started on the top floor of a three-story residence located at 8796 19th Avenue, was called in at 7:37pm, fire officials said.
A witness told NY1 that the father was sleeping when he was woken up by the smell of smoke.
“My cousins and family live on the second floor. Nothing had to do with their house, but everything was evacuated,” a witness said. “The whole apartment is destroyed now. There’s water damage. There’s everything. There’s a horrible mess. But us as a community and a block and a neighborhood did definitely all come together to help everybody out during this tragedy.”
The baby was transported to Lutheran Hospital and was deemed in critical condition due to her age, said officials. The extent of the infant’s injuries are currently unknown.
The fire was extinguished by 10:41pm, according the FDNY. There were no other reported injuries.
Correction: An earlier version of this post implied that the infant was male.
