Free music and food are coming to the streets of Coney Island over the weekend!

The Alliance for Coney Island has teamed up with CBS Radio to present the inaugural Coney Island Music festival this Saturday, August 12. Despite rain on the forecast, organizers are hoping to create a signature event with this years “1st Annual” festival.

An extension of the Department of Transportation’s “Weekend Walks,” the program will feature three music stages, street food vendors, and interactive classes around Surf and Stillwell Avenues from 1:30 -9:00pm.

Festival headliners and early-aughts emo darlings Hawthorne Heights will be playing the main stage as part of their current tour behind their “Hurt” EP. Alexander Jean, a husband and wife indie duo, will play the main stage as well.

Street food will be available from a variety of vendors, serving up everything from BBQ to fresh lemonade.

A stage at Surf Ave and 15th Street will feature such activities as a Zumba class, salsa lessons and free face painting and caricature art.

Weekend Walks are a series of DoT events that promote the use of streets as public space in commercial corridors, running from April to December. Expect road closures on Stillwell Ave and Surf Avenue between W 12th and W 15th Streets.
