How Would You Reinvent the Payphone?
New York City has 11,412 payphone kiosks – including this one on 5th Ave – and as we all know, they’re becoming somewhat obsolete. And since the city’s current payphone contracts expire in 2014, they decided to launch the Reinvent the Payphone contest to get your ideas about what to do with them.
The guidelines are pretty wide open, but there are some things they want you to consider, like alternative communications amenities, sustainability, accessibility, and more.
If you’ve got a clever idea, there’s an information on January 23, and submissions are due February 18. If you enter, let us know – there’s a public vote on the top three entries, and we’d love to support a great South Slope design!
