Following the devastating death of 2-year-old neighbor Greta Greene, who lived with her parents, Stacy and Jayson Greene, in Kensington, just across the border from Ditmas Park, we’ve been flooded with emails from neighbors who want to know how they can help the Greene family.

We have learned that you can support the family by honoring Greta with a donation made in her memory to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell, where the toddler was brought following the tragic incident that caused her death.

Greta died Monday, May 18 after bricks from a building at 305 West End Avenue on the Upper West Side fell on the little girl who is described in her New York Times obituary as “sensitive, intuitive and aware from the moment she opened her eyes” and a “bright light to all who knew her.”

Greta was an incredible little person, with her obituary stating that:

She was early to find her voice, quick to master the art of conversation, and seemed to understand that the world could be a very funny, delightful place, if you looked at it right. She opened her parents’ eyes to the small joys in life through her understanding of human nature beyond her years and shared her love of food and animals everywhere she went. Her family and friends mourn her loss, but her spirit is ever-present in all of our hearts.

To make a donation in Greta’s name, please make your gift payable to New York Presbyterian Fund Inc and include on the memo line “Gift in Memory of Greta Greene to PICU/NYP Weill Cornell.” More information about donating can be found here.

From all of us at Ditmas Park Corner and Corner Media, we send our deepest condolences to Greta’s family and friends.
