How Old Are The Buildings On Your Block?
Prepare to history nerd out with this interactive map by BKLYNR’s Thomas Rhiel that shows the approximate age of all ~32,000 buildings in Brooklyn.
Looks like the majority of Park Slope’s buildings are from between 1900-1929 (pictured in yellow), with some blocks heavily green (1890s), some orange (1930s). As expected, much of the red (places built from 1950 on) in our area appears along 4th Avenue, but there are some surprises there, as well — the west side of the block of 4th Ave between Bergen and St. Marks, for instance, has a few buildings that were built in 1800.
It’s pretty addictive to look at the ages of blocks, and whole neighborhoods, all over Brooklyn. Find any other surprises?
