How Long Is Your Commute?
Just in time for the weekend’s open houses and rental appointments, let’s take a look at how long it takes people in Ditmas Park to get to work. So many times when we’ve tried to convince friends to move to the neighborhood, the number one thing that keeps them breaking a lease immediately is a long commute. This week, WNYC created a map of average commute times based on 2010 Census data, and it will be interesting to see how it compares to yours.
In our neighborhood, the map shows it’s about 42-46 minutes on average, with a dividing line around Rugby Road that shows people to the east have slightly longer commutes. According to the Census, the average commute time in America is 25.4 minutes, and if you’re going at least 90 minutes and 50 miles, you qualify as a “mega-commuter.”
When we asked how people get to work last year, we found that the majority of you take public transportation to get to work, but also several people walk, bike, or work from home. So now we’re wondering, how long is that commute?
