How Are You Dealing With National Grid Construction In Ditmas Park?

Has anyone had trouble with all the National Grid work taking place in the area lately? Neighbor David wrote yesterday to say:

National Grid has been repeatedly digging up E 17th between Dorchester & Courtelyou, laying pipe, digging it up again, digging up connections to apartments apparently in need of replacements, etc.
It has gone on for four weeks, with jackhammers and gas cutoffs to whole apartments, and displaced scarce street parking for whole days.
I know that the layouts are not well documented and repairs are needed, but you cannot help thinking that this one block has been handled rather inefficiently. At this rate, they will cover the whole city in maybe 100,000 years.

The crew is still on location today. The permit for the work is for “Major Installation Gas,” and is valid on this particular block until July 30.

We saw some digging on Marlborough recently that resulted in gas being shut off at Cafe Tibet and other nearby businesses, and today a worker on E 17th said upgrades still need to be done all over the area. A representative of the company could only say that construction “takes different amounts of time depending on the size of the job,” but couldn’t specify why work on this one block seemed to be taking so long. We have reached out to Community Board 14 as well, and are waiting to see if they have information to offer.

If you live nearby and have had a similar experience to David’s, let us know. You can also call 311 or fill out a contact form at National Grid online to find out more.
